The Asheville Tourists team has a new manager. The Houston Astros Player Development Department announced that Nate Shaver will manage the team for the 2021 season. This will be Shaver’s first season managing the Tourists and third as the High-A Manager for the Astros.

Nate joined the Astros organization three years ago as a Developmental Coach for the Carolina League champion Buies Creek Astros. The following year he became the High-A Manager for the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, guiding the team to the Carolina League playoffs.

Shaver played at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon, and New Mexico State University, earning his M.S. degree in Biology and completing a Ph.D. in Sports Psychology and Kinesiology.

Tourists President and Owner Brian DeWine said, “We are extremely fortunate to have Nate leading the Tourists into this much anticipated season of Tourists baseball. His experience and level of success at the High-A level will give our team an edge night in and night out. Off the field, his demeanor and leadership qualities are the perfect fit for our organization and the Asheville community. I am pleased to welcome Nate, his wife Kelsey, and their son Griff into the Asheville Tourists family.”

The Tourists begin their much anticipated season on Tuesday, May 4 with a home game against the Brooklyn Cyclones.
